State police are investigating after one person was pronounced dead as the result of a vehicle accident in Berks County Thursday evening, a press release states. According to state police, a 17-year-old male was traveling west on Old Route 22 in Upper Bern Township and approached another vehicle at a high rate of speed.

According to state police, a 17-year-old male was traveling west on Old Route 22 in Upper Bern Township and approached another vehicle at a high rate of speed.

A press release states that the 17-year-old attempted to pass the vehicle in a no-passing zone while traveling on a small hill.

State police said that, as the 17-year-old was passing, another vehicle, the operator at this time only identified as a 59-year-old female, was approaching from the opposite lane of travel.

According to a press release, the 17-year-old struck the 59-year-old female.

State police said that the 59-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the scene and the 17-year-old was transported to a local hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The press release states that all identities are being withheld at this time until proper notification can be made.
