A school bus carrying nearly 50 children collided with a tow truck in Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County Wednesday.

Officials say the crash happened just after 8 a.m. on Route 115 as the bus was making its way to Bear Creek Community Charter School.

Pennsylvania state police said the driver of the tow truck is believed to have suffered a medical issue while driving, causing them to cross over the road and strike the bus.

Both the tow truck driver and the school bus driver suffered moderate injuries, while the children only sustained minor injuries.

All were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

Officials said an investigation is ongoing.

"The bus at the time was carrying 49 children heading to the Bear Creek Community Charter School for the start of their second day of the school year. Both operators suffered moderate injuries. The children on the bus suffered only minor injuries but were still taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital to be evaluated. While traveling, the flat bed tow truck crossed over into the oncoming lane of travel and struck the school bus head-on. At this time, we believe the operator of the tow truck suffered a medical issue,” state police PIO Trooper Bill Evans said.
