Teen killed in Route 96 crash in Schellsburg

BEDFORD CO, Pa (WJAC) State police say a 17-year-old male was killed in Friday night's crash along Route 96 in Schellsburg. According to a crash report, the teen was traveling northbound, just before 10:30 p.m., when he swerved to miss debris on the roadway, lost control, and was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound.

According to a crash report, the teen was traveling northbound, just before 10:30 p.m., when he swerved to miss debris on the roadway, lost control, and was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound.

Troopers say the teen was pronounced dead at the scene and that the driver of the other vehicle was transported to Conemaugh Hospital with minor injuries.

The teen's identity has not yet been released by the coroner's office, but the Chestnut Ridge wrestling team says the victim was Kai Burkett, a senior at the school.

State police in Bedford are investigating a fatal crash that occurred late Friday night, according to 911 dispatchers.

Officials say the crash involved two vehicles and occurred along the 2300 block of Cortland Road, Route 96, in Schellsburg.

It is unclear how many people were involved but dispatchers did confirm that the coroner was called to the scene.

Fire crews from Shawnee Valley and Alum Bank, as well as Chestnut Ridge EMS were also on scene to assist, according to dispatchers.
